The Sandusky River in Fremont Ohio, as well as the surrounding areas offer numerous fishing opportunities.  By far the most popular fishing is done during the annual walleye & white bass runs.  But good fishing can be had all year long in the area.  Below you will find a calendar highlighting the best fishing throughout the year as well as maps of the Sandusky and Maumee Rivers.  We also have links to the Ohio DNR site and weekly Lake Erie, walleye & white bass fishing reports.

Beaver Creek Reservoir in nearby Green Springs Ohio boast an excellent population of bluegills & crappie in the 5-10" range with some large fish present.  Ice fishing is particularly productive.   Walleye begin to spawn in the Sandusky & Maummee river around mid March. The walleye run peaks around mid to late April.  The white bass begin their spawn around late Apirl; when the dogwood trees are blooming the white bass are running.  Every year on Easter Weekend the Ohio Division of Wildlife stocks White Star Quarry in nearby Gibsonburg Ohio With rainbow trout. The white bass run peaks in the Month of May.  Catches of over a hundred fish are not uncommon!  May is also a good time for bullhead fishing.   Best bullhead areas are Muddy Creek north of Fremont and the backwaters of Little Portage River. Smallmouth Bass begin spawning in early June.  They spawn in the reef areas of Lake Erie and in the Sandusky river from behind the Ballville Dam to the Old Fort & Fort Seneca back waters.  The best place to fish for smallmouths in the river is in the ripple pools under Tindall Bridge.

July August September October November December
July & August are a good time of year for big channel cats on the Sandusky River.  Large fish can be had at the sand docks behind the old sugar beat plant, and down stream around the river islands along route 53. The months of September and October a good months for yellow perch fishing from the piers in Port Clinton, the Sandusky Bay, and Camp Perry.
